It started with an idea Gina had during our during our honeymoon in Europe. We were visiting Mont-Saint-Michel and she said, "Wouldn't it be great if there was a gothic novel that took place in real gothic place like this?" So we wrote it. Intensely for the first three years of our marriage. A really good first draft. Then we had kids.  It took a couple of good rewrites decades apart but we got it to the point where it is not perfect, but ready.

We regret that in the e-book version, the format did not support the French vowel accents, but instead places a rather disruptive box.  For this reason words such as Abbè , Père , Frère and others do not appear as they do in the paperback.  Likewise, the audiobook with the virtual narrator does not support French titles and names. Thus “Père Roger” is pronounced “per-REE RAH-jer” and not “pear Row-JAY” ;”montagne” is pronounced “monTANna” and not “MON-tan-ye; “Guy” was pronounced “Guy” and not “Gee.”  BUT, you will find the book just as scintillating and easier to access in the 14-hour listen.
